Creative Video Games That Keep Kids Busy in the UAE Summer

It’s July. The temperature reaches 45°C before the morning’s even over. The pool feels awful, the mall is crowded, and the kids have asked what we’re doing about four times already.

Every parent in the UAE knows this feeling. Summer break is long, and most of it happens indoors.

Screens are going to be part of it. That’s just real life. But there’s a big difference between scrolling short videos for six hours and building something. So here are games that get kids creating, not just watching.

Why Creative Games Are Different

Some games are just about winning. Run, shoot, collect, repeat.

Creative games work another way. No one’s giving them a goal to reach.A kid gets an idea, starts building, and then realizes something isn’t working. So they go back and fix it. There’s a lot of learning in that, from thinking ahead to using numbers. And once they’re finished, they’re usually pretty excited to show off what they made.

Minecraft: The Obvious One, For A Reason

If your kid hasn’t played Minecraft yet, they probably will this summer.

In Creative mode, there are no monsters and no hunger. Just unlimited blocks. You’d be surprised what kids come up with. Houses, castles, entire cities. Some even try making their own version of their school or the Burj Khalifa.

A few fun projects to begin with:

  • Recreate your home, including the kitchen and bedrooms.
  • Build a little town somewhere in the hot desert.
  • Put together a theme park with rides that work.
  • Mess around with redstone and figure out simple circuits.

It also works well with friends. Lots of families set up a private server so cousins and classmates can build together safely, without strangers. Huge creative maps mean minecraft hosting for a creative build server needs plenty of storage. Worth checking before the kids spend six weeks on one giant city.

And turn on a whitelist. That way only invited players can join.

Other Games Worth Trying

Minecraft isn’t the only choice. Different kids like different things.

  1. Roblox Studio. Not just playing Roblox, but making games in it. Older kids can learn basic coding here.
  2. Terraria. Like a 2D Minecraft, with more adventure. Good for kids who get bored of just building.
  3. LEGO games. Simple, funny, and easy for younger children to play with a parent.
  4. Super Mario Maker 2. Kids design their own levels, then watch others play them. Very satisfying.
  5. Townscaper. Calm, quiet, no rules. Tap and a little town grows. Little kids can play this without getting too worked up.
  6. Scratch. Free, made for kids, and teaches real coding through drag-and-drop blocks.

Try a couple. You’ll know in a day which one sticks.

Keep It Healthy

Creative or not, a whole day on a screen isn’t great. A few simple rules help.

  • Set a daily limit. Two or three hours is a common middle ground.
  • Mix it up. One hour of building, then something offline, like drawing what they built.
  • Play together sometimes. Just ten minutes of asking your kid what they’re building can mean a lot.
  • Use parental controls. Most consoles and apps have them. Turn off chat with strangers.
  • Watch the evening. Screens late at night make sleep worse, and summer sleep is already messy.

One trick some parents like: a “build challenge” of the day. Monday is a boat. Tuesday is a zoo. It gives the game a bit of structure without killing the fun.

Make It A Family Thing

Here’s something people miss. Creative games are actually fun for adults too.

Pick a weekend afternoon. Join your kid’s Minecraft world and let them give you the tour. Ask them to teach you something. Most kids love being the expert for once.

You might end up building a terrible house next to their beautiful one. That’s fine. They’ll laugh, and they’ll remember it.

The Takeaway

The UAE summer is long and hot, and kids will be inside a lot. There’s nothing wrong with screen time when kids are actually making something.

Minecraft, Roblox Studio and Scratch are good examples of that. Keep sessions reasonable, don’t let strangers join, and spend a little time playing alongside them.

By September, your kid might have a whole city to show you. Not bad for a summer stuck indoors.
